Manhattan kitchens are tiny (most urban ones are). Some can only accommodate a half-sized stove. And cabinets, well there’s never enough. So to champion my spatially challenged cooking space, I’ve had to get crafty with my food prep gear, and buy items that can be easily stacked and stowed without taking up too much cupboard real estate. So when I came across London-based designers Richard and Antony Joseph's new fold away kitchen essential line I was psyched, and I bought a few of their items straight away. Both functional and fun, their pieces have come to the rescue for me, helping me to churn out meals—good meals I might add—and maximize the minimal cabinet space I have. Take for example their Fold Flat Grater available at Nestliving. This space-saving product is a traditional-style box grater one minute, and then un-clips to fold completely flat for easy storage the next. It also has slide grip handles for more stability when grating your favorite cheeses or nuts or whatever, so you won't have to worry about nicking you knuckles or fingertips. But, be careful anyway. And if you think this colorful item (it comes in either red, black, white or green) will cost a fortune, well you're wrong. It's only $25.
