Be a snow day superhero with this stowaway shovel

Shovels can be unwieldy, and that's probably why we hardly ever have one on hand in the car to dig ourselves out of stuckness. In honor of the recent snow smackdown here in New York, here's a heads up on...

New Jersey has the cleanest air? Seriously?

That's the word, according to TOH sister publication Money Magazine, which ranked nine of the Garden State's cities within their top ten list of best places to live with the cleanest air. (Richmond, Virginia took the top spot.) Now, I'll admit, this is hard to reconcile to a born-and-bred New Yorker who's grown up on "Jersey smells" jokes...but it seems these towns have an air quality index that generally hits 100 percent and an air pollution index that regularly hits somewhere below the national average. Now that's a breath of fresh air (literally!) and it gives us yet another reason to love the state, which we've come to admire for it's great places to find old homes: Atlantic Highland's was one of our Best Old House Neighborhoods in 2009.
